Why do you offer two lengths of pins for mounting?

Generally the short pins are used for the shirt and the long pins are used on the service coat.

How does a magnetic backer improve on pins for mounting?

Magnetic backers consist of a thin magnetic sheet upon which your thin Ribbons are mounted, and another thin magnetic sheet which goes inside your shirt or blouse to attach the ribbons set to your clothing without puncturing holes in them which can cut threads and lead to unraveling.

What's the difference between thin ribbons and the regular kind?

The original military ribbons were about 3/4" thick and made to slide onto a metal rack. The thin Ribbons are less than 1/8" thick, and permanently mounted on a plastic backer. They are less bulky and tend to look more tailored.
