Coast Guard E Ribbon
In September of 1990 the Coast Guard established an “E” Ribbon as one of the newest medals of America. It is their equivalent of the Navy’s “E” ribbon which has been around since July of 1976. These US military medals are sometimes called Coast Guard Excellence Ribbons. These Coast Guard ribbons are presented to the officers and crew of any Coast Guard Cutter which earns the Operational Excellence Award. These military ribbons are used to reward particularly the enlisted personnel of any unit that has shown unusual cohesion among its members and exceptional efficiency of operations. The Coast Guard E Ribbon is worn below the Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation and above the Good Conduct Medal in the general order of precedence that has been established for the proper display of all military medals and ribbons. It is the lowest of the personal and unit performance commendation awards in the pantheon of Coast Guard decorations. All subsequent awards of these military ribbons are denoted by gold and silver Service Star devices. The Coast Guard E Ribbon is generally available as Coast Guard ribbons, lapel pins and also as a unit banner. Like most military awards, it is available as traditional slide-on military ribbons from commercial military insignia suppliers.
